Hey!

I've been looking at purchasing a TV recently and I noticed The Warehouse advertising a VEON TV at which seems like a good price for what you get but I don't know much about the Brand (or TV's full stop) and I was wondering if anyone here did?

I would be using if for playing PS4 and watching TV.

Specs are close to meaningless, go in, ask about it, then put on a test Bluray or two and see if you like the picture.

I'm guessing you are considering it because it's the cheapest / biggest panel you can find ?

using a zeon fhd 39 inch tv as a monitor in the study purchased 9 months ago for $450 (?) - at a time when all others were north of $1k around this size

for the price i am happy with the picture

sound is ar%e - as it is for all tvs imo - which is why i use a separate sound system

as suggested - test the picture and sound and see if it is ok by you

They are good value for what they are, and imo are comparable to the lower-end sets from the more well known brands. The audio is pretty crap, but then, most TVs are that way. Ours unfortunately does not support ARC, or any other audio out method, so using an external sound system for the freeview channels (tuner build in, of course) is not so simple, but we knew this before purchase. The picture quality is decent - we have a Veon 50" and the picture is comparable if not better than the Panasonic 46" we have of similar age that was $300 more expensive (yes, both are full HD LED). You don't get any sort of Smart or 3D features, nor should you expect it for the price.

So, if you are budget conscious and want something decent, I would happily recommend them. The 50" ones occasionally come as low as $600, for which you'd probably only get 32" if you went for a better brand like Sony or Samsung. If you're not too focused on budget, though, there are better sets out there, but unless there's an exceptionally good sale on, they'll be at least 50% more expensive for the same size.

The cheap TVs are usually rubbish. You get what you pay for. Also check what input/output connectors it has. May not have the connectors you need.

I got one of the 32 inch models just over a year ago, as a telly to put in the spare room and to move some things (gaming etc) out of the living room to a smaller cozier environment. I mainly just wanted to de-crappify the living room, get something for guest use, and do my (occasional) gaming in a better environment - and I didn't want to spend too much money.

It was an OK TV at a good price, and I'm happy with it as a spare room TV. However, it is noticeably inferior (picture quality, number/range of inputs, responsiveness) to the good TV I have in the living room. I would buy one again for the same purpose, but wouldn't buy/use that make as my primary TV in the main room. In large measure, you get what you pay for at the bottom end.....

If gaming is important to you the "lag" time between when a signal is sent to the TV and the picture is shown is important. It varies widely with low end TVs so that is an important factor for you.

Turn overscan off when you get the TV.

get a panasonic or a samsung from noel leeming. they're cheap for the next few days. spend a few bucks more and live longer

having said that, it doesn't seem to have a 50" for a few bucks more that is a reputable brand, so i guess it's up to you, if money talks.

Picked up a cehap Veon ($399 for 46" LCD - red alert deal) last year

Agree with most of the other comments. Couldn't argue for the price at the time.

Will also add the remote and UI is poor compared to a "brand name". My Samsung's are great to use - the remotes feel solid and are quick at flicking through the EPG to see what's on. With the Veon it's a chore and I often just use my smartphone instead. The Veon remote is also the cheap rubbery remotes you get with low end DVD players (or other low end TV's)

Still - it does the job and it has a 3 year warranty (which I'm going to use as one side of the screen goes purple every now and then)

I bought a 32 LED HD ready veon six months ago for $300 and so far have been happy with it. How many other brands offer a three year warranty.

Thanks everyone for the advice!

I'm gonna go in tomorrow to test it out and see how it goes with a Blue-ray (etc), I'll also look around tomorrow at Easter Sales to see if there is anything comparable because I would be using for gaming a lot and someone mentioned about Lag-time but the reviews about the VEON seems alright and nothing really bad seems so stick out so I'll just have to check it out in person I guess.

If by backlight strobe you mean that flickering carryon then forget it. I cannot stand to game on my samsung because that is non-defeatable on it, much more pleasant to game on my craptastic fluro backlit samsung where I dont see a trail of images everytime I move my eyes.

IME the low end tvs are not very laggy at all. Its the mid range ones with some processing that dont have a game mode that have the problems - a 100 (120 really) samsung that a freind has is horrible. It has a game mode option but the best we could tell it only lowered it slightly.
