Do you guys use them? Playing around with windows media center. We found our USB tv wasn't that good the pc would loose channel ability to tune. Bro now got bis own Igloo we wired rooms with rg6 and cat6. Samsung tv our one does t seem to work needs a hdmi device to do it.

you have windows media center and found uSB TV Tuner didnt worker properly. Is that correct.
Your brother has bought an Igloo.
You wired rooms with rg6 and cat6 cables. WHat are cables connect to. Where from and where to.
You have Samsung TV and seems to need hdmi to work. What are you trying to connect ? Is it the Igloo. If Igloo, is the Igloo next to the tV and what cables are you trying to connect. What connections.

I was typing that message last night in bed on my phone.

What I mean is, do you guys actually use these technology with extenders to redistribute various media? Or DLNA and stuff like that? We've found it easier to just purchase additional Freeview boxes and simply share a windows folder to share various files like that. With our Samsung TV which by naitve (I think) doesn't share windows folders, we've just copied some pictures after a holiday onto a USB stick and physically plug it into the TV. If it is a webpage or Youtube video we found that we just link our smartphones/tablet with our TV.

What prompted me to ask this is that I read some of you guys just plug in a external hard drive into the Smart TV and don't use much of the Smart TV features regularly.

For us one computer had a USB TV Tuner and using Windows Media Center employing the extender redistribution feature didn't work. It would kinda reset hte TV tuner so I had to re-insert the USB stick and retune it regularly. Bro had a Xbox to grab the TV Tuner. This redistribution is by using Cat6 cables so from my PC in my bedroom to his bedroom where the Xbox is. The Samsung TV is in the lounge but AFAIK our Smart TV doesn't support Windows Media Center Extenders, I read on Google that Samsung sell a HDMI device which does work with Windows Media Center as a Extender.

The Igloo does network cable but we don't really use that b/c it's just for online rentals. Igloo has not real sharing computer functions. So it's just network cable from Xbox 360 to my PC (with the tv tuner) to a network switch which is then connected to the router (with a single cable) and then the Samsung which uses WiFi to the router b/c our router only has 2 RJ45 ports. The other network cable to the router is the UFB.

At a pinch if we wanted to watch a video that the file is on a computer with the lounge TV, we just use standard Windows Media Player and send it to the TV downstairs. Not very entertainment console like Windows Media Center .....

Not sure this will help you but what I do is

- put all non recorded content on a file server (ripped content etc.) That is available to any device via Windows shares which are usually Popcorn Hours (I have one connected to my 60" plasma and one connected to my projector), PC's over wired ethernet and WiFi devices like phones or tablets.

- content I record I record with either GBPVR (analogue TV over cable) or NPVR (Freeview HD content). That content also lives on a file share on the PC and is again accessible by any device on the network.

So effectively all content is accessible either via the Popcorn Hours, PC's or any wireless device. I have found I can even watch H.264 DTS 5.1 in a MKV container content over WiFi with my Nexus 5. For that I think I had to add a plugin to the Android media player (MXPlayer)

Works for me and no video extenders required.

I use xbox 360 media center extenders. one reason is because it plays music, photos, and video catalog in other rooms using the same interface everywhere. main reason is for the live/recorded TV from the MCE head unit. I use Netflix from within MCE in the loung, but in the other rooms use the native Netflix apps as the Netflix doesn't work in extender mode.
