Hi There,

I'm looking to buy a new 50" TV. I was thinking either Sony or Samsung but if anyone can recommend something else feel free (I'm not a fan of LG). I'm really not interested in 3-D.

To me it seems like the Samsungs have more apps etc but I'm just not sure how much I'll use them on a TV to be honest. Sony TVs has been around for years and I trust them. What does everyone else think.

Although 3-D does interest me sound does so I was looking at getting a sound bar - any recommendations?

LG? I don't like the idea of a TV that spys on you but who knows how much better the other brands are.

The KDL50W800B is the highest model out of 50" Sonys. Noels was selling it for $1600 so you should be able to get it for that.

Samsung has lots of 48" televisions this year. They do have a 50" 4k. I don't know how good it is but it should be better than LG's.

Panasonic has some IPS panel models for wide viewing angles.

Soundbars are pretty simple, figure out what ones won't obscure the TV's infrared sensor (some need an IR blaster to work) and then listen.
Take a demo USB stick with music / movies on it and listen to them, then make your decision.
I'm yet to hear a soundbar made by a TV company that sounds even remotely good... good luck.

some of the newer samsungs come with a free soundbar as a promo at present. The samsung website has a list of mmodels it applies to.

I just got Sony KDL48W600B recently which is 48" non 3D 2014 model. I can highly recommend it. The picture looks great, I watch 1080p content, freeview and HD sports and all looks good. It does have Netflix app if this is of any interest for you. It cost us $1188 which was a fair price..

I listened to a Sonos sound bar recently. Impressed with the sound quality when playing music (didn't try any movies). Nice and clear, tight base and lots of 'warmth'. As my description will reveal I am not an audiophile, but I do know good sound when I hear it. Price was $1,300 from memory.

i have a Samsung 55" 3d tv. Love it cause i use plex ALOT! got it on sale form 3000-2000. Very happy with it!, looking for a sound bar.

Balm its gone!
