Hi

I was wondering if someone can help me.

Do they make 2 types of pc (usb) TV tuners - one for PAL and one NTSC?? Since we don't broadcast in PAL  (in NZ) will buying a USB TV Tuner from the States cause problems??

Or do the tuners generally work with PAL and NTSC both??

Thanks

If it comes from the states it will only do NTSC. Nothing over there supports anything else. Over here on the other hand you are hard pressed to find something that does not at least support NTSC as well as Pal.

You will most likely to find PAL version here, that has the ability to switch to NTSC decoding, however the core is still PAL-generic. IF NTSC tuner that you get from US, it will stubbornly does NTSC only as US has never got a need for multisystem, just as their baseball world series is mainly only USA, Canada... interestingly, their definition of "world" is USA/Northern America.

Just a note of interest. If you are not so interested in the tuner part of the card and have say Sky or TCL cable, are just want to capture the video to record, then the Hauppauge USB2 capture devices (PAL or NTSC) can capture PAL or NTSC video. For a NTSC USB2 device, it's just a registry change to enable PAL capture. I think the same applies for the more simple WinTV type cards also.
