One of my HTPC's is nearing capacity on the c drive..its up to 45GB out of 48GB.
every now and then it comes to a grinding halt as i hit near the limit.

I've moved all the my docs/pics etc etc over to another partition but still nearly full.
what can i easily delete to free up some space? would uninstalling a few programs and installing them on the other partition help, for instance open office etc?

first i would be finding out what is taking up all that space?

if you are saving most things to another drive and dont have much installed on C then it shouldnt be using that much space

i suspect that the suspend and hibernate files are taking up a heap of space as the PC runs 8 gigs of ram??

Also Google for Treesize Free and try this out. For me the ranking of the folders from largest to smallest in this format is easier to understand.

Well that will be 16 gigs if my memory serves me correctly, you could turn off hibernate and suspend and then delete the files(i think they are usually in c:\)
You could try windirstat to find out what else is taking space https://windirstat.info/

Well 48gb is pretty small for a c drive these days. I'm about to change to a 120gb SSD and certainly wouldn't use anything smaller. That size will require installing some programs on another drive as my current 200gb has only 68gb free.

i have 69gb free of 120gb on mine, all my programs are installed on there and a couple of small games. everything else is on the other drives

While not actually designed for it, Bleachbit seems to be the best thing around for freeing up space. I believe it may even be available for most of the common platforms.
