Has anyone got instructions on how to stream live news from either TV One or TV3 on XBMC?

What device are you running XBMC on just out of curiousity?

There is an XBMC app for tv3 and tvnz but it's not been maintained for some time so it's pretty useless.

I use a mythTV backend to record everything we watch and XBMC as various frontends on an HTPC and a Pivos XIOS box, works good.

Unfortunately we don't get any TV reception where we are, so having to rely on TV streaming over the Internet

Oh, thats a problem... what about satellite?  My mythTV backend has two DVB-S cards and a DVB-T card, mostly use the terestural one as it's HD, but if you had a Sky dish it's already pointing the the correct satellite.

Hulu and the BBC iPlayer plugings work kinda, not having much sucess with them at the moment using Slingshot Global Mode while my oversees friends are still camping.

Other than that there is couchpotato, sickbeard and sabnzbd but you didn't hear that from me...

We're in temporary rental accommodation, so don't want to install a satellite.  I had look at Couchpotata etc and certainly interesting services, but not for streaming live TV content via the web.   It's clear that there's no simple solution that integrates with XBMC.  Not the end of the world as its just a case of switching back to the desktop and stream directly from the TVNZ and TV3 web pages.  Thanks.

Agreed, if I could code I'd have a go at fixing the app...

Same here.  Although it's an ongoing commitment as well to keep the code maintained.  But it appears that the real issue is that the providers (TVNZ and TV3) are no longer providing an interface that can be called by the application, and instead keeping it proprietary for use by selected partners such as Samsung for their smart TV.

Sorry - didn't realise you had no reception where you were. I don't think there's currently any way of web streaming TV1 & TV3 other than via a browser.

The plugin just uses the flash player streams, they just change as the web site changes so its an ever moving target

It used to pull from the ps3 based navigation (for tvnz).

Snooping the ios or android app may be a better way forward. Unless the stream are drm'd which I believe they are (and run through brightcove).

Ask the Landlord anyway if you will be there for a wee while. If I was a landlord, I would put a dish in, on the assumption that having a house with no TV reception option at all would be a negative for potential renters - and presumably they will want to re-let the property after you move out? It wouldn't cost them much, and would remove a significant negative from the attractiveness of the property as a rental.
