After this the movie is saturated with reds and greens. I have tried with several discs, all of which were region 4 NZ and played on a Sony DVD played bought 7 years ago in New Zealand.

I have switched the colour system on the menu from PAL to AUTO and back again, but it makes no difference.

Any ideas gratefully accepted.

What do you have it plugged in with, component cables? What you described can happen with component if a plug has fallen out or been swapped.

Thanks. It's plugged in with HDMI.

Thanks, bfginger.

I checked again behind the TV and the DVD player in question was plugged in via component. My multiregion player was connected via HDMI.

The blue component lead HAD become loose and, when I pushed it back in, the problem was solved.

Many thanks for your useful suggestion.
