I'm upgrading my htpc and installing xbmc/kodia as it'll have more WAF once the Harmony 1 is set up.

I'm currently using a mini-itx with a pentium g3258, 32bit windows 7, 4gb ram and 120gb ssd.

Anyone have thoughts about using windows 7 64bit instead? I do realise that xbmc is a 32bit application.

The htpc will not be used for games or transcoding, it will receive media files from my server.

I might even move to the dark side and use open-elec for a higher WAF :) and would appreciate any input about that, too.

Cheers smile

If all you want to do is steam media then use OpenELEC, even if only for the simple fact that it will be 100x faster to install.

Thanks, I will look at that, assuming it's fully compatible with the mysql database on the server?

the actual stability of xbmc on 64 bit is good with a fresh install. i did an "upgrade" from frodo to the latest gotham and it was buggy as hell. with a clean install its great.
i dont do sql at my place so cant comment on that.

i have an older logitech 785 with the lcd screen and integrating into xbmc is a piece of cake. Modified the keymap to allow things like one touch audio sync adjust while the movie is playing etc . wifey and 7/5 year olds can operate the entire system and change from TV to HTPC and back with ease.

I'm not aware of any issues with OpenELEC and a centralized SQL database.

With mysql database sync you just need to be all using the same verios on xbmc/kodi i.e. 13.2 and not mix 12.x with 13.x won't work as db is different...

Tim
P.S. windows is the dark side
