Hey there
The sub in our home theatre is playing up something chronic - it produces significantly loud pops and crackles, even when there's no signal (or even audio cable plugged in). I've read both here and elsewhere of people having similar problems with this series (it's a Velodyne CHT-8). Not sure if anyone has ideas as to what the problem may be (I'm thinking the power supply, which could be an expensive repair).
Anyway, I'm looking at options of what to replace it with, if it comes to this, and would be interested in some recommendations for something affordable (including secondhand options). It's for a room a bit bigger than 6x4m with 2.1m stud.
My problem with the sound of the current CHT-8 is it's a bit boomy, a bit one-note. This is kinda ok for movies but frustrating for music. So I'm looking for something that works well for both movies and music - ie goes really low and with enough wallop but is also fast. This has had me looking towards a sealed sub rather than a ported one, though I accept this may lead to not quite the same bass extension. I've read many good things about SVS subs, and have looked at the pair of ported and sealed subs they do for $750NZ (PB-1000 versus SB-1000), with the sealed one possibly more likely to meet what I'm after. Has anyone experience with any of the more affordable SVS subs, or any other recommendations for a <$1000 sub?
Many thanks
Jonathan
