I know this is a downgrade but I want it for a temp setup and I don't want to spend any cash.
Is it posible to just connect the two chrominance channels, of the component out, together onto pin 3 of an S-Video plug?
If not, why not?
And if not is there an easy and cheap solution.
Cheers

No,

You need a carrier that is modulated by the two component signals, it needs to have a pulse just after the sync to allow the PLL in the device receiving the carrier to lock onto, and then only modulate during the scan lines, and reset for each of them.

And no, no cheap solutions.

I thought as much. Oh well, back to the drawing board I suppose.
Thanks for the explanation Rich.
