Hi guys,

I'm looking for someone who is using a DVB-S card (like a hauppauge nova-s), and who is using it to watch freeview under Media portal or MCE XP/Vista.

I'm thinking of getting my dad a dvb-s card for fathers day/his birthday (they are only a few days apart). I have a media pc, and currently have a hauppauge 150mce. The hauppauge 150mce is connected to sky, and the quality is pretty 'average' on our 40" sony LCD tv. This is to be expected as it is taking an analogue source (composite from sky decoder).

With the rugby world cup coming up, my dad will have to do alot of recording, so I'm looking at getting him a dvb-s card - which I assume is really good quality, as its all digital ?

So what I'm looking for, is for someone awesome to record a short snippet (under 1minute) of a prime time TV show on TV3 (via freeview), and then send it to me (to be arranged). Format does not matter.

I know its a bit of a hassle, but it would really be greatly appreciated.

I have dvr-ms files from GBPVR and .ts (trransport stream) files from Media Portal recorded from a Haupaugge Nova S Plus PCI card if that is of help. I could convert the .TS file to MPG if that would help. I find that Media Portal works better for me when I select the native TS format rather than converting to mpg at recording time.

PS: A one minute segment is still about 40MB in size so its probably too big to email...

Afraid I don't use Windows for myPVR, but I could provide a small capture direct of TV3. As already mentioned the files are quite large as TV3 uses around a 6MBit MPEG2 stream, which does make for excellent quality.

Appears a few people on this list have had issues with the Hauppage Nova-S cards under Windows. I personally recommend the Technisat Skystar-2 units.

Thanks for the offer, but mike has sorted it :).

I was considering getting a skystar-2, but alas they have a major issue with some nforce 4 motherboards (they actually kill some asus nf4 mobos). I'm using a DFI SLI-DR, so although I'm fairly sure it would be ok, I would rather not risk it.
