Should I need to turn DiSEqC on if I'm using a bog standard Sky dual head LNB?

I'm still trying to fine tune my setup, and I think having this on may be causing me some of my issues.

No, the Sky LNB is a simple 22kHz tone control, ie tone on is 156E, tone off is 160E. Diseqc sends control words to devices on the coax by keying the 22kHz tone, these are two different things. You dont need to use Diseqc for the Sky LNB.

I don't know if you have a Sky STB plugged in, but I found that if Sky was plugged in and on standby, the LNB wouldn't react to the 22kHz tone sent by another FTA STB. Unplugging the Sky box from the dish allowed the tone from the FTA box to get through fine.

The Sky box should not have prevented the 22kHz tone from going through, however if you had the other reciever connected via an non DC passing port of a splitter then the tone will not get through, not only will the non DC path not pass DC but 22kHz is pretty much DC as far as the splitter sees.

thanks for your replies.

So in theory in my TV software I shouldn't need to specify two LNB's via DiSEqC settings despite there being two, as the tone will sort out which one it's using?

Thanks Arun, will keep that in mind.

Not just theory, practice, the Sky dual throat LNB will not respond to Disqec commands period. It is a simple 22kHz tone controlled device.

Hey Allstarnz, are you using mediaportal or mediapotal tv server? Have you been able to get switching between  Optus D1 and C1 working with the sky dual LNB  (22khz switch)?

I'm using GB-PVR, but the whole setup in general is not playing ball at present.

:edit: I had a play, and with the suggested settings, tuned in the SBS flavours, 7 Central, BTV1 and Optus Info. Spent 2 mins seeing what Optus info was about and carried on :) (as of course the rest could only be tuned, but not viewed due to encryption)

Sadly I have to unplug all the Sky boxes to do that, so can only be a test at this stage.
