Hi guys,

New to the forum, thought I'd post this here as a lot of the American forums don't seem to have our models so I can't figure out what I should get.  Here goes...
I've been reading a few reviews and checked out various stores (Harvey Normans, Noel Leemings etc) and am still undecided.

At the moment I'm looking at the Sharp Aquos series (LC37PX5) which I can get for just under 2500. The Bravias didnt look too bad either (KLV37U3 or the KLV32v300, $2477 and $1777). What they were displaying on screen at Harvey Normans the Bravias probably looked *slightly* better. Samsungs didn't look too bad but I thought they certainly didn't look as nice as the Aquos or the Bravias.

Questions I've got - is there much difference between the U series and V series of the Bravias? I'll be using this LCD primarily for my Xbox, at the moment I've got it hooked up to my 24" Dell and it looks magnificent on that (this is via component at 1080i).

I've also read some good things about the Teac 1080p 37" screen (which is actually a rebadged Amoi) at considering it does 1920x1080 it seems like a very good price for 19 hundy - although I took my Xbox out to Noel Leemings and hooked it up to this and tbh it looked pretty average at 1080p via component on Bioshock. Could be doing something wrong though, I must admit I'm a bit of a LCD-tv noob.

Any recommendations? I've already got a 42" Samsung plasma and tbh I don't really think its that great for gaming - although it is a couple of years old....this will be the 2nd TV for the games room.

I'm also pretty tempted on the Bravia V 40", and thats about 2800 in Harvey Normans and I'll probably get a slight discount on that if I play my cards right.

I will go into the store and give these LCD's the going over with the Xbox regardless, but would appreciate any feedback.

Hey, I've been going through the same sort of LCD window shopping for a while now but not looking for a TV specifically for gaming.

Initially I had been impressed with the 50 + 60 inch Sony SXRD rear projection LCDs and still am for the amount of pic you get for the $$$. But as the prices have fallen and new models have come out the 40inch V series Bravia seems really good value for money.

A friend in the same situation just bought a Samsung LA40R81BX (?) from Harvey Norman with $600 of redeemable dvd/camera/mp3 player. Looks more stylish than the Bravia which now looks a bit boxy. I'd prob be tempted to get one myself $$$ permitting.

I dont think I'd bother with HD right now as its still at a premium $$$-wise but maybe when I am in a buying mood in a cpl of years it will be more accessible with more bang for the buck.

As a matter of interest I have a Thomson 36 widescreen 100Hz CRT and its great BUT its a monster weight and size wise. For style, space and convenience I would be looking for a LCD.

Cheers Steve

Hey.. I am also in the same boat.. have a look at this australian forum, they have the same models and have had our latest models for over 6 months.. pages and pages of info on those bravia's. Just dont look at the prices they pay!! it will bring tears to your eyes, we really are getting shafted :-(.

IMHO I would buy a cheapish LCD to get you by until the Sony OLED screens are more widely available.

I can't brain today. I have the dumb.

wow those OLED displays are nice! Laughing http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-1-000-000-1-contrast-ratio-27-inch-oled-hdtv-1/128897/
1,000,000:1 Contrast ratio! All things considered though, they had a 27" model prototype on display at the beginning of the year, its going to be some time before we see a 37-42" at an affordable price! a $2,500 lcd would be a reasonable investment for a 3 year wait..

Yeah, I've been looking at those Samsung's - will go into HN's in the weekend and see what the old xbox looks like on it.  They're a bit cheaper than the V series as well (by about 4 hundy) so will see how I go.  Been checking out that Australian forum, man....those prices
