whitefoxxx: if i have a 4 ohm sub and a 8-16 ohm home theatre will i be able to use the sub on that home theatre or not

If it is not a powered sub then don't do it. You will either blow up your amp or you speakers (can't remember if low ohms stresses the amp or the speaker).
