I have a set of rechargeable glasses (Model number TY-ER3D4MW) for my Panasonic plasma tv and wanted to find out if just a normal usb to micro usb cable would (should) re charge them.
Over the years I have lost the cable that came with them and I went to dust them off and use them the other day and of course they were flat.
The manual for them says that when charging the red indicator light will show however when I plug in a standard usb to micro usb cable this does not happen.
If I turn them on when plugged in however they do work but you have to keep them plugged in so this indicates to me they are getting power ok however its not charging them as you can leave it charging and 1. the indicator light does not come on and 2. if you leave it on charge for a couple of hours then disconnect the cable and turn them on they are dead.

Battery is supposed to last 10 years (according to spec) , and they have only been used probably 3 times in 2 years (the 3D is really just a gimmick)

I have tried 3 different usb to micro usb cables and all do the same as per above.

Anybody use just a standard usb to mico on their Panasonic glasses or has a genuine cable they could lend me to see if I need to get a genuine one.

Hi, what are you using to charge them?  i.e. what are you plugging the standard usb into?

I see you can charge the glasses off the TV's USB port, is the TV on when you try this? Does the TV settings menu have anything configurable regarding the USB port?
Have you tried to plug them into the USB of a PC or laptop?

Is the micro USB port dirty?    Sounds like the either the battery is poked or the cable is poked (this is where you say "really, it didnt occur to me earlier" in repsonse to my highly useful contribution)!   :-)

What did you originally charge them from?
I wonder if you need a 1amp+ charger perhaps.
USB sockets on laptops, TVs etc can sometimes have quite low output. Fine for USB memory sticks but not for charging devices.

Have you got a USB charger - maybe for a phone or similar?

I suppose the battery might be a bit dodgy and not really taking a charge properly. Using them while plugged in might just be getting enough power to make them work. Without actually charging them at all.

Would have thought the battery would have been ok as they have only been used 3 times and I tried 3 different cables.

They were originally charged from the TV but with the original cable. I did try using my charger from my HP Stream 7 as it uses micro usb for charging and had the same result of no red indicator light showing.

How long did you leave them connected to USB?
If the glasses have not been used for some time, they may need to be connected for some time before battery will start to charge.
Suggust you connect to rear USB sockets on PC and leave on for a few hours.

Try contacting Panasonic after the break and see if you can get the 10 year battery life 'claim' clarafied. You shouldnt have to muck about this much to charge them.

I left them on over night last night and nothing.

Even if the battery is stuffed I would have thought the red indicator light would have come on to show its trying to charge.

Maybe the cable is the issue then.

I have often seen people complaint about some Samsung phones not charging and it has turned out to be the USB cable.
Try putting "USB cable charging speed" into google and you get a lot of results.
Maybe try another cable. The USB -> micro USB cable is pretty common.

What I am trying to determine first is if I need to use the genuine cable to charge them , it may have a different configuration to a standard usb to micro usb ??

Looks like they should be charged enough for 3 he's use after about 2 minutes.
Sounds like they are on the blink. Call panasonic.
