I have a Minix Neo X7 Android TV box (latest 010 firmware and latest Kodi 14.0) and with some 1080 video it works fine, but with anything recorded from Freeview HD using MythTv on a stand alone server it does not display well (artefact, delays, and stuttering). On the same Android box using other video player it works fine (all hardware accelerated) only in XBMC/Android. The same video works perfectly well if viewed on the Server using Myth FrontEnd or any remote Myth FrontEnd.

So my question is, has anybody had any problems viewing Freeview HD recorded at 1080 using MythTv using Android XBMC as a video player? If so what is so different from Freeview HD 1080 files compare to other 1080 files found on the web (which works). I have been told that the bit rate may not be compatible with XBMC but not sure how to check for that. I have asked on other Forums (Minix) and nobody really knows what is different with the Freeview HD recorded 1080 files.

Interlacing.

1080 videos you've seen previously are most likely h.264 codec, but progressive (1080p). Freeview HD is also h.264, and 1080 but, it's 1080i.

Try tuning prime, tv1 +1 etc, as they are 576i and a bit easier to deal with. Most of these system on a chip can't deal with the interlaced element of a 1080i as it has to add the era frame, and it overwhelms the cpu. A roku3, Apple tv3 nor raspberry pi will handle this interlaced stream.

The Rockchip is supposed to be able to handle 1080i, and using other Apps on the Minix I can view the Freeview HD recording perfectly well. So it must be a XBMC issue that can not handle the 1080i and/or bit rate of the Freeview HD recordings. One possibility is that XBMC does not recognise the 1080i and try to run it as if it was 1080p at the wrong frame per second.
