Hi, everyone. We recently bought a Samsung "smart" TV (UA55HU7000W). I'm wanting to try recording programmes on it, so today I plugged in my USB drive in order to format it. The drive was recognised by the TV, and I was able to play an MP4 file that was on it.

When I was ready to format it for recording, as per the manual, I navigated to the smart hub, but there was no 'On TV' screen (which is where the manual directs you to go). In fact, while I have seen in videos five screen icons on the smart-hub page (News, Apps, Multimedia, On TV, etc), my TV only shows the first three and 'On TV' was not available.

I was, however, able to access the format tool via the info screen, but when I went to use the format tool, it said it was unable to format the drive.

I have two questions:
1. Why don't I have all five screens (including the ON TV screen) in smart-hub view?
2. Why is the TV having problems formatting my drive?

Thanks in advance for any replies. ?

Michaela

OnTV screen is not available when the Smarthub country is set to NZ. If your SmartHub country was set to Australia, UK, or USA, you would then see the OnTV screen.

If you wish to change your Smarthub country and use the streaming apps from Au, UK or USA, then have a look here:

I recommend choosing the UK.

Can't comment on formatting the drive via the TV as I've never tried it.

Remember, if you do that, you will lose the NZ apps (Lightbox, Quicklflix, TVNZ and TV3 on Demand).

Thanks, you two. I wondered if it had something to do with location. I'll look into that link.

When I bought the TV, I had previously had experience with apps via a dongle. I found the quality of the services less than average. When I went to buy a new TV, I was telling the guy that the smart TVs weren't really 'there' yet in terms of quality of apps. But he said, "No, not at all. They are very good now!".

After getting the 'Smart' TV home, I was soon assured that not much has improved. The TV3, On Demand and YouTube apps (the ones I most use), are just as glitchy as ever. Looking forward to this technology getting better.

Any ideas about the formatting issue for the drive?

Thanks ?
