I have a laptop that doesnt have a s-video port
but I wish to connected my laptop to my tv is there any cables or anything that allows that through USB?

i assume that your TV does not have a d-sub pc input then?  That would probably have been your best option.

what sort of laptop do you have?  there might be a cheap port replicator which has an s-video port

A dell INSPIRON 1501

RAM: 2GB
CPU: 2Ghz
HHD: 120GB
OS: Vista Home Premuim

No I dont think my Tv has a input like that.

i dont think there is a cheap port replicator that will give you an s-video port. 

its possible there may be a usb graphics adaptor that you can buy, but i'm not so sure.  if you had to go as far as buying a usb or pcmcia graphics adaptor then perhaps you might be better off spending the money on a portable media box, or an xbox instead.

Bugger not having a s-video port.  Can I suggest you going to DSE (maybe with your laptop) and asking them for USB or VGA port solutions; the former of your two suggestions seems like it might do the trick but I'd be surprised if there wasn't a cheaper solution with your VGA port.

At a guess i'd say it probably isnt a feature of your laptop/graphics card so its unlikely to work.

I still think your best bet is to go with something like the following if you just want to be able to watch xvid/divx movies (or you want to play dvds then buy a $50 dvd player):
