Hi there

I have an Android Media box - Minix Neo X8-H which I mostly use for audio playback of FLAC files through the optical out port to my Pioneer VSX 817 reciever. The FLAC files are on a USB hard drive which is attached directly to one of the Mniix USB ports.  This works perfectly.  I've documented this in another post in the Home Theatre forum.

However, I would quite like to add an Android TV stick attached to the like this, and I'm hoping that this forum can tell me if this is feasible. Here are a couple of options:  - http://www.amazon.co.uk/PCTV-Android-Plug-In-portable- Freeview/dp/B00BUY6NTW/ref=pd_cp_computers_2#productDetails or this http://www.dlink.com.au/home-solutions/dsm-t100-portable-digital-tv-receiver The first option appears to be a Hauppage box documented here - the 78e model

Confusingly it is also documented here with a slioghtly different spec The PCTV dongle is documented here with a list of compatible devices.  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dexatek.pctv1.player
Both sticks support PVR functionality, and I would like to store the programs that I record to the attached hard drive.

Is there any reason that anyone can think of why these sticks would not work?  If they do, then it would mean that the Minix becomes a complete httpc solution for my lounge, and I can get rid of the PS3 which we currently use to get Freeview on. The key elements of the PCTV dongle are as follows.  They need the following all of which I think the Minix has

  • Android 4.0.3 (“Ice Cream Sandwich”) or later
  • minimum 1 Ghz dual-core-processor, Neon support (for example NVIDIA Tegra 3)
  • USB OTG support
The dlink dongle specs are on http://www.dlink.com.au/home-solutions/dsm-t100-portable-digital-tv-receiver I notice that it requires USB Host mode.  Is that a problem? Interestingly, if this works it means that one can create a complete HTTPC box for around $400 - $200 for the Android unit, $100 for the external hard drive, and $100 for the dongle.  That's a pretty good price.
