Anyone seen any IPTV STBs around in NZ or AU.

Just wanting to have a play with some hardware that could act as a simple MythTV frontend.

There are a lot of devices with UPNP support, but they can't handle true rtsp or udp based IPTV services.

Not sure... have you considered devices from Macpower (available on trademe or digizone.co.nz) or a hacked AppleTV ($500) or an Xbox 360, or Playstation 3...?

The Macpower devices support UPNP but don't do pure IPTV.

Modified Apple TV etc might work, but I'd like a simple STB style solution.

I guess, a pure embedded solution wouldn't have the ability to serve such a variaty of protocols. The likes of Joost for example.
If they don't agree on one standard, the hardware will have to support most of them.
But please keep us updated on your findings, I'm really interested.
I was hoping to see something in the future from Telecom or Orcon, supporting IPTV, like BTVision in the UK
