I've just had a bit of a play trying to get Netflix to show up on WMC.

I tried to just to an WMC, but nothing changed, then I tried the direct download option from here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/D/D/8/DD8BD495-9A5A-46DB-B95E-A846AF35915E/NetflixInWindowsMediaCenter.exe

It gets to 55% and then fails, so I tried this technique from the same forum:

a. Open an administrator command prompt by hitting the windows key, type cmd, right click on the command prompt item and choose “Run as Administrator”
b. Run the following commands:
i. cd /d %WINDIR%\ehome
ii. start /wait mcupdate -u -nogc
c. After this command has completed, start up Windows Media Center, and the Netflix entry point should be to the left of Recorded TV on the TV+Movies row

But no joy either.

Does anyone have any ideas? Or does it just go in the too-hard basket.

Where would I see Netflix if it did work?

PS I've checked that I'm running the latest version of Silverlight.

This would be something interesting to have working in New Zealand now.

I have got this working after a lot of trial and error and googling.

It involves changing your PC's geographical settings. I will try and dig out the instructions I followed.

The plugin works well in most situations but there are some things that it does not do.

It does not allow for multiple user profiles.
You cannot search for shows.

But for my kids to watch cartoons it is great.

Found it

There are two problems to overcome:

1) WMC will not show the netflix tile unless it thinks it is in the USA
2) Netflix will not let you in unless it thinks you are in the USA

I have no idea if this tile will work once Netflix is released in NZ.

Well, Netflix was released in NZ yesterday.

multiple profiles is a pain.  no fix for that.

search, however, you can fix.  check this thread: http://www.thegreenbutton.tv/forums/viewtopic.php?p=78733#p78733

Works a treat. Not a perfect app, but better with search now working! Thanks Regs!

Is it working with NZ Netflix or US? I didn't have any luck connecting to UK Netflix via VPN tunnel, and assumed NZ would not work either.

Just tested it. No problem with US, UK, NZ or anywhere else it seems. I'm switching regions with UnoTelly's UnoDNS Dynamo and then open WMC and launch Netflix it works fine.

Thankfully!

Perhaps try a DNS service rather than VPN?

Thanks for this - integrating Netflix into WMC was one of the questions I was going to ask.

On a simialr vein, I also discovered that you can use WMC to launch apps. At the moment, I use WMC to watch FTA recorded TV, then minimise WMC and then flick to web browsing for any streaming. Nice to know I can do this from within WMC. I sure there are other WMC tricks I have yet to discover ...

First off thanks for this thread, very informative.

I have a question about the billing/content side of things, my ISP is My Republic who has a geo-unblocking service in place, so when I got to Netflix.com it takes me to the US site not the NZ one.
I have just signed up with a US account, paying in US dollars and I assume im getting US content (Which doesn't seem that up-to-date IMHO). Is this similar to everyone else? Is anyone signed up to Netflix NZ?

You can switch regions - you watch the content of the region you are located in (if you don't use a VPN/DNS service) with the same subscription.

Really, so then I believe I would be better off to sign up in NZ and pay NZ dollar and have my DNS routing give me access to the US content.

It depends on when you signed up for Netflix US - old plans have HD and multiple devices included. If you are not on an old plan then you can change your subscription.

Yes, it does have 5.1 on my xbox through the netflix app. Not 100% sure on the WMC plugin app though.

You definitely want to make sure you are getting the Netflix US shows as well, the NZ Netflix is missing a lot of good shows (if your ISP has Global mode it just happens).
