I think I may have asked about this before but I can’t find the thread and I don’t remember the answer. I have ordered a mini-pc with HDMI output to use as a streaming computer. I would like to be able to record and play back as easily as I currently do with my analogue DVR. My question is what hardware exactly will do this and what do the experts here recommend?

I want to be able to record via HDMI for convenience and compatibility, but in itself HD isn’t that important. Most of the stuff we are likely to stream won’t be HD anyway. It also won’t be HDCP and I am not trying to bypass that. I just want something that can record unprotected digital streams (as my satellite and terrestrial PVRs currently do) and pass the HDMI signal through to the TV. There seem to be a few media boxes designed to do this for PS3, but I am not confident I know enough to end up buying the right thing. Any advice would be appreciated.
