I have an 7-8 year old Panasonic plasma which goes black when the fridge on the same circuit switches on or off. The green light stays green and the sky messages still show up. The blackout lasts 2-3 seconds, just wondering if its on the way out or if I have an electrical problem ? Seems to be happening more often as time passes.
Thanks,

To test your hypothesis, why not try your tv from another unrelated PowerPoint (eg run and extension cord) and see if the same problem occurs? If it still happens you have your answer.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Our new fridge does that to our TV, just need to move the TV to another circuit.

Or if moving the TV to another circuit you could always get a small ups, that might be enough to flatten out the power dip at a fraction of the cost of a new tv

Why would you be buying a new TV, just plug it into another circuit in the house that is not on the fridge circuit :-) It's not a fault with the TV it's the amount of draw on the circuit you have it plugged in to, but yes a small UPS would possibly help.

Plasma TVs draws a lot of power - a small UPS may not cut it.

A heavy duty UPS costs $1,000 plus.

Many thanks to all who took the time to reply, have switched to another socket (rather than running off multi box) and it seems to be fine now. Was looking forward to a new TV but never mind I will wait until it really dies.

The moral of the story - don't run high-power devices from a multi box wink

When it eventually fails (tomorrow or within years from now) - please remember to offer it to me for parts!
I pay from $1 to $40 cash for plasma TVs - dead or alive with or without screen (does not matter if broken)

Sounds more like its just a HDMI dropout than a failing TV.
