Hi all, I have a question....
I am wanting to record my Live TV recordings to my FreeNas server. Now WMC only allows recording to native disks (current setup, SSD Boot and 2TB disk for recording etc).
I can change the recording path in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\Recording. I will create a new target folder \\FREENAS\Media\Recorded TV.
My question is, this will allow WMC to record to my NAS but will the live TV buffer also record to this new folder? I plan to remove the 2TB disk so will only be left with the SSD in my HTPC and I do not want the Live TV buffer recording to my SSD. I have done some testing on my laptop but as I don't have a tuner card for it I am a bit limited in what I can test!
Part of me is wondering if I should move to Media Portal as it looks like WMC may be about to die. Seems a shame is it works so well for Live TV with EPG collector.
Thanks in advance!

I'd probably go mediaportal or nextpvr (both free windows options).

One thing I learnt with NextPVR is recording over a network, you need to make sure the recording service is not using local service or network service (for nextpvr you have to change the recording service to a local user as the system users can't access network resources).

Set up an iscsi target on the freenas server, use iscsicpl to present it to the pc as a local disk? Not super simple, but not bad either.

Try Vultr using this link and get us both some credit:
