Hi Guys,
If anyone found a solution to the behavior described below, it would be greatly appreciated to hear back from you.
I have used MP for several years now, never getting the "sleep / wake up for recording" truly right. But I have lived with it as it was.

I have recently decided to get this working, and apparently it does work, I have set the MP to turn PC off after 10 min of inactivity. It then comes back on to record and then goes back to sleep, of course 10 min after the recording is done. The start-up is quicker as well, as it does not go through a full boot cycle.

Issue 1 - not important at all: to turn the PC on, I still have to press the on/off button on the case, or any key on a wireless keyboard I have. Th remote control (Hauppauge 45 buttons) cannot be used to turn the Pc back on while on sleep. Is this possible? But again... this is a very minor issue.

Issue 2 - this I REALLY want sorted. When the PC is back on from the sleep state, only few of the remote buttons work, like volume, skip, FFW, start / pause but not the rest of the functions (exit / back, coloured buttons, "i" for info, channel up/down, and other important functions). I have to actually re-start the PC (using the wireless keyboard) to re-gain  access of the Hauppauge remote control. The full MediaPortal functionality is available if I use the keyboard, but at the same time the remote is not recognized unless I do a reboot?

I am planning to be away and the way the PC is running now is OK to ensure that shows are recorded while away, but as you can guess, it is far from ideal when using it on a daily basis. Is this something which can be fixed / improved please?

Also, I am using an external EPG grabber to get the TV Schedule, I would like to have this running let's say 2-3 times a week, to ensure the TV Schedule is renewed while I am away (I can have a fresh TV Schedule when I leave on holiday but this is only for one week, I will be away for longer - the recordings will still be done but will be all dumped together in a "manual" folder if there is no valid EPG at the time when the recording starts... you know what I mean...)

Many thanks in advance.

For the remote, does it work if you just restart MP?

For the EPG, if you're using EPGCollector, set it to run using a scheduled task.

Have you selected the correct remote in the Mediaportal settings. If you have no joy with the remote you could try using a cheap android tablet and unified remote https://www.unifiedremote.com/ I use it and it works perfectly with WOL playback, recording and even controls my amp through a USB UIRT.

Ive had none of the problems your having.  I ditched my hauppauge remote years ago though and use a logitech harmony setup as a microsoft mce remote.  I have mine set to hibernate/sleep but it as a bit of a mind of its own as to which it'll use at any particular time - not that its an issue since I have an SSD in it and its pretty instant at restarting either way.  Same with the EPG, I have that set to run at like 3AM 3 times a week and it always starts up.  Even have WOL working fine so my NUC can access everything.

For my EPG collector I use the MP command line thing in its schedule to grab.

For one of my machines I use a HP remote receiver, it works very well. It will wake the machine from sleep, but not shutdown, and otherwise does everything perfectly.

Have always used a Microsoft or laterly a Logitech Harmony remote pretending to be a Microsoft one.

I rarely turn it off myself - I just go back to the home screen and turn the TV off leaving the HTPC to sort itself out.

I did not try to only restart MP to get the remote working, but it definitely comes back to normal when I reboot the PC. Before enabling the sleep / wake function, the green button on the remote used to give me options, one of them being to restart MP, now it instantly sends the PC to sleep, no options offered. I will have to check the buttons mapping, I guess.

I use EPGCollector indeed, I have tried to set it as a task in Windows but it does not seem to work (back then the PC went to "shut down" when MP was inactive - not on sleep, maybe this is why di dnot work?), I will re-check the settings in MP under EPG Grabber section. Currently, I run it manually from time to time. (shut down MP, run EPGCollector, re-start MP, all manually).

I will also try to see if switching between "sleep" and "hibernate" makes any difference on the system behavior at wake up. I guess "sleep" is better, as "hibernate" tries to start things where they were left? Which the TV tuners might not agree with? Also, I believe I have tried something like this before and in one of the modes the fans were still running, which I did not like.

What sleep state are you using (eg. standby, hibernate)?
Is the remote control receiver plugged into a Hauppauge card?

Ability to wake a PC depends on sleep state, hardware and configuration. A Hauppauge remote may not be able to wake the PC from the sleep state you're using.

Is HCWHelper running after resume?
Is MediaPortal focussed?

HCWHelper is the helper application that MP uses to receive commands from the Hauppauge remote receiver driver. If it isn't running, MP won't receive commands. Simple as that.

[edit: Also, do you have more than one Hauppauge product?]

For you remote not starting the PC from sleep, is your receiver a USB receiver?
If so, you should check that the settings for the USB receiver include allowing the device to wake the computer from sleep. An example image is included here:

Instead of the keyboard, make sure you are looking at the remote.
