Reason for asking, is if there are any gotchas with HDMI switchers. I know some are auto switch, this one is remote controlled, no biggie, or do auto switchers work well if some devices are in standby? Or is it just a case of get any one, they all do the job?

What are you connecting to the switch?

Looks like the cheap 5 port one I got off aliexpress for about a quarter the price.

That one works fine, but its a little iffy about my samsung bluray player since that leave the HDMI out running when its off unless I turn on its power saving mode which makes it take forever to start. Since its still "on" to the switch then it will often not change to another input so I have to use the remote.

I have a cheap generic one with remote that I bought years ago on Trade Me. For some stupid reason, my otherwise excellent Sony TV has only 2 HDMI inputs. I programmed the remote into my Harmony so it automatically switches inputs along with other commands. Over the years I have had a lot of disappointments with cheap Chinese devices but this HDMI switch has been absolutely brilliant. It is the one thing that has always worked flawlessly and never given me a problem. It was also really cheap.

looks like the belkin one I got from noel leeming.  strange how they look all the same, same remotes, same IR receiver, same power requirements...

the one I got from NL didnt come with a power supply, but I had one that worked laying around.  I needed power to get all the devices to work, power over hdmi wasnt enough.
