Hi all.

I have just moved into a new house that has individual speakers throughout the house ( 5 in total ). I am wanting to buy a speaker selector so I can plug in my ipad or phone. Are there any recommendations?

Will it need to be amplified?
Each room only had a single speaker, not stereo, will this be an issue?

5 rooms of mono audio?
Are they in-ceiling speakers? If so, they 'may be stereo single speakers' (two tweeters to one driver with an appropriate crossover).
But normally, the person who set this up wouldn't have had a clue what they were doing (sparkies who should stick to power, not AV wiring or a DIY type).

Basically, you'll need an amplifier, but don't spend much as it will most likely sound terrible. Make sure there's an iOS compatible USB port on the front to connect your iPad / iPhone, OR Bluetooth / Wifi so you can send audio to it wirelessly.

The next issue, is that a standard 5.1 amplifier, set to run the same sound through all speakers, will leave you with the same volume in all rooms - at all times.
Soooo...
If you do have stereo single speakers, you could always buy a 5 zone speaker selector switch with volume controls. Again, not a cheap exercise.

They are ceiling speakers, there is only one set of wires per speaker so I assumed they were monos..

I guess you could just plug in any old 5.1 amp with a USB port on the front and have 'whole house music'...
It's certainly cheaper than re-doing the whole house. Horrible to use, but certainly cheaper.

What of I want to be able to switch each speaker on and off (wouldnt be ideal to have the outside speaker going 100% of time)?
