Hi,
I've inherited the stereo that was in our familly home.
The CD player is a Marantz CD50 that doesn't work anymore. CD tray not popping out
Amp is an Arcam unit.
i'd like to get this service and operational again.

Can you recommend somewhere reputable in the auckland region?

thanks

If you have a Blu Ray or DVD player then just use that for playing CDs. Or buy a very cheap one. If the tray doesn't work then it probably can't be repaired anyway. You can buy DVD players dirt cheap now ($30 at the warehouse). They are certainly much cheaper than dedicated CD players and play CDs OK.
Likewise it's probably much more economic to buy a new Amp rather than try to get one serviced.

It depends on the quality of the CD player, if it is a very nice one, it probably worth a try. CD50 is a nice unit in its days with CDM4 and TDA1541, way better than ordinary DVD/blurays for playing CDs.  But unless its a small problem such as lube, it would be near impossible to get it fixed. That being said, any handyman in electronics can open it and have a look, but you know how high is the service cost in NZ.

Repaired the CD Tray on my Marantz CD52MKII the other week. Just needed a new cog and rubber band which cost all of US$6 online delivered.

The Marantz CD50 was released in 1989.
Let it Rest In Peace.
Fixing it would not be economic.

Talk to Kelly or Peter at Axent Audio, they'll sort it out for you.
