Hi,

New HTPC build using

Asus h97 plus micro atx 1150 bought from playtech

Intel Core i3-4130T Haswell bought from Amazon

8 gig Kingston Fury bought from Amazon

FSP 400W psu gold rating 5year warranty. Bought locally

Samsung 840 120G SSD bought from Amazon
Fractal node 605 bought locally

I finished putting everything together. When I turned it on it just turns the fans(3+the cpu cooler) for 5seconds. Then reboot,no post at all. This would just keep repeating itself until I turned it off. I added a boot speaker to see if that would help me but again nothing.

I rebuilt it same thing. Used a different psu, a 550W. Same thing. Tested the memory on another pc and they work fine. Using the memory from the other pc on the new build, same result. Next thing I did was to take out the board+cpu+psu+1 memory stick. Started it outside the case again same result. Can't think of anything else that I could try. I guess its down to the board or cpu being the culprit maybe.

Anyone with any ideas? And thanks

Psu hooked to motherboard properly? I've had the motherboard plug not need the extra 4 pins in some cases, and need or not need the extra 6 pin atx plug. And other combinations.

Sounds like you have checked the most likely causes of this sort of thing i.e. Bad connectors (especially the 2 PSU connectors) and RAM (although you should get long beeps/POST with a bad RAM stick).

I assume you tested the bare board without SATA connectors or any other peripherals.

I guess you have to check the CPU has been installed correctly - no bent pins in the motherboard socket etc..

If the CPU has been correctly installed, then it is a lot more likely that the motherboard is faulty.

Over the years, I have had a handful of faulty motherboards. But, never a faulty CPU.

Hey thanks for the replies. When I tested it iwas bare bones with only one stick of ram. I think I tested twice, once with the ram that I bought for it and once with ram from another machine. Cpu slotted in OK. Can't see how I could have bent any pins. I know that that's a possibility but I think its a stretch.
I'll be taking it back to Playtech and let them look at it.

I took it back to playtech to have it tested and its buggered. So wait for a new board. Thanks for everyones post.
