Hi, after a few days with Windows 8.1 and WMC trying to get it to download playready with no success and what info I could find on the internet and not working decided might try Windows 10 with MediaPortal.  Will have to one day anyway as WMC is dead in the water.
I tried Mediaportal a few months back but had some problems which with perseverance could be worked out.  I had Mp-TV series ? and MASH was listed as New Mash and couldn't find how to correct it.
But the main problem was Movie scan took 20 hours where Kodi and Plex only take 40 minutes.
Question is it normal for scan to take that long and would it take that long again when rescan when new movies added.

How many movies do you have and are they local or on a network share?

I use TVSeries for managing TV shows on a network share and that takes about a minute to scan almost 2TB of video. I'm using Moving Pictures to manage movies which are also on a network share of about 1.5TB in size and that takes about a minute as well. Both shares are on a 1Gb wired network connection.

This is just the update scan and I haven't had to do a full scan for a ages but I still doubt it would be anywhere near 40mins.

I have around 1500 movies on network Windows Home Server 2011. Taken 2 years ripping collection to server. Same with TV series taken ages converting them.  Kodi only took 40 minutes on same server.   2TB movie folder and 3TB TV Series folder.

With WMC no longer I will eventually have to change so decided now will be time

That seems really long to me. What seems to be the bottleneck? Internet connection, local network, remote server/disk, local database, local server resources?

not sure as never looked into more at the time. Went back to WMC and Kodi when I couldn't get it recognize MASH properly even though it is definitely named correctly.  At the same time Kodi only took 40 minutes with same computer, same network and same server and nothing else running.  But now Windows 10 is out and is quite good am looking at ditching a dying duck and go permanent to MP and can put up with long scan if it is only once and not each time to update libraries.   Would be good to have just MP rather than WMC and Kodi

So were you using Moving Pictures for your movies right not myVideos? it can take a while but not 20 hours, 2,000 movies may take a few hours for example
if you install the IMDB+ script in Movpics it may also go faster

its not going to take 20 hours everytime it scans, once they are in the DB thats it

for mp-tvseries plugin, can you give me a example of how you have named the MASH episodes? on thetvdb its M*A*S*H so its probably causing issues on the parser with the *,  but for sure you can manually select the show if it cant auto do it for you.

yeah that's it, Moving Pictures was the one. Okay on MASH it will be my fault then I have in folder MASH then subfolders MASH Season 1 etc then episodes MASH S01E01.  Will take a while but will rename them M*A*S*H.

I don't think I had the IMDB+ script.  But thank you for the help. I will start sorting those which will take a week or so setting up in spare time.

for movpics, run the importer and paste the logs, might be mediainfo or something that is slow

for tvseries

the folder structure doesnt matter in mp-tvseries, but you should make life easier and do it right

in tvseries only the filename of the episode matters, you are not going to be able to put * in there, not allowed in windows
keep it as mash - then in mptvseries series plugin configuration (not in MP), do the import process, it should detect that show and allow you the option to manually specify the name

Will try that.  Probably wont post logs as main computer is still okay and was just making new updated to keep current so wont be able to do it in couple hours as at this stage only spare time project.
Once it is done and sorted I will then update the others as I have other jobs take priority around home weather permitting.  Have written these down in one place to keep at hand.   Thank you for the great help

Try using an App called Bulk Rename Utility - found it makes renaming tv series files a lot quicker.

You'd be able to quickly rename all MASH to M*A*S*H

I'm using PLEX on my 2008 Mac Pro (server side) and installed Plex Home Theatre (client side) on my little Windows 8.1 box. I really like the interface and I only had to tweak a few episode names to get them to recognise correctly - it picked most up as they were. Works great and doesn't cost a cent unless you purchase the specific device or OS apps. The Home Theatre client for Windows is free.

I have plex and kodi.  After more searching leaning to nextpvr and kodi for live tv.  Found can integrate nextpvr into kodi really well.   If it wasnt for watching and recording live tv plex or kodi alone would be fine

Just an ypdate. After trying a few things, I dumped mediaportal.  I have Nextpvr which was so simple to set up and Kodi.  Windows 10 boots to kodi. In kodia I used nextpvr client also easy setup.  I can watch live tv and record or watch any of my movies or listen music all through kodi.  I even tried shutting down kodi and it kept recording tv program.  I can do series record with it. For me, it is the perfect setup. Time will tell how it is long term.

Good to hear you're liking NextPVR.

FYI, NextPVR is designed and developed in New Zealand.
