Howdy, geeks! Here's an interesting one for ya.

I've had a Logitech Harmony One for a while, controlling the below:

- Sony KD-65X8500C
- Xbox One
- PS3 (with Harmony adapter)
- Apple TV
- Onkyo TX-NR727

All devices are connected to the Onkyo, which then sends all signals to the TV while splitting the audio to the speakers connected to it. There's also an optical cable from the TV back into the receiver for proper bitstream content to be played through it.

But the Harmony remote is dying, so I though this might be a good opportunity to try and use HDMI-CEC (for the devices that support it, of course). This has the benefit of letting me use the TV's RF touchpad remote, which supports voice commands.

My question is: if you were re-wiring this, what would you change (no hardware swaps)?

Additional info:

- TV has 4 HDMI inputs, one with ARC (audio return channel)
- Current Apple TV is not HDMI-CEC-ready, but will be replaced with one that is (possibly)
- Xbox One and PS3 are used for gaming only

HDMI CEC is the devil, you will despise it after the Harmony One.
Buy the Harmony Ultimate (you won't need an adaptor for the PS3), due to the blaster system, you won't need to point the remote at the products while using it either.
Not cheap, but good.

Not looking to spend anything at this stage in preparation for a new PS4.

Because it's not very smart. When I turn my TV on, the amp comes on automatically and selects the TV (ARC) as the source, then I fight with the amp for 30 seconds as it keeps flicking back to TV even when I've selected the cable\sat setting on the amp. If I just turn the Amp on, it doesn't turn on the TV.

This is with a Denon AVR-X1000 and 2013 LG TV. YMMV.

Agreed, HDMI-CEC is good in theory, but after having a Harmony you will find it frustrating.

Nurse your current Harmony along until you can afford a replacement.

From what I read, you're supposed to have the TV remote be the master. Seeing as most of my time is spent on the TV's smart interface, there's no switching on the amp. I have now plugged the amp into HDMI4 (ARC) and it seems to work well (so far).
