HI all. I have successfully been able to install windows Media center on Windows 10 (followed instructions on google). Everything works well except I can not for the life of me get the PC to wake from sleep to record. I have tried everything, power settings/wake timers etc. I have put a lot of time into this and feels its too late now to return to 7!!
I have installed MCE standby tool and set it to standby S3. WMC uses task scheduler to start and sleep after recording and I feel the problem lies there somewhere but I don't know enough about where to look and what file does what. Can anyone help??

I've got my main wmc htpc which I was always going to keep as win7, but I've been wondering about upgrading my main desktop/backup htpc to win 10 and using the program to put in wmc if I need it.

It puts me off that I don't really know where the program comes from. Even if it works perfectly, there's no guarantee it'll continue to work as win 10 develops. It's the boring non-geekzone option but I think it's safest to leave it as win7.

Have you tried posting on the forum where the download link is posted?

No I haven't but that's a good idea and I agree with your points and will most likely restore back to a system image of 7 as this version of media center seems quite buggy. Can't search in program guide, wont wake, etc.

Using taskschd.msc expand Library, Microsoft, Windows, Meda Center.
Find the startrecording task
Right click, properties
Select the Conditions tab
Make sure Wake the computer to run this task is ticked.

Can't search in program guide

That's only worked for me once out of the 4-5 reinstalls I've done on my HTPC. I thought it was to do with having windows search enabled, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

I've got used to using the Sky TV ipad app

Media Center has some search tasks as well, might be worth while checking they exist. Ones I can see are

- ActivateWindowsSearch
- RegisterSearch
- ReindexSearchRoot

Home Server: AMD Threadripper 1950X, 64GB, 56TB HDD, Define R6 Case, 10GbE, ESXi 6.7, UNRAID, NextPVR, Emby Server, Plex Server.
Lounge Media Center: NVIDIA Shield TV 16GB: Kodi18 with Titan MOD, Emby.
Kids Media Center: NVIDIA Shield TV 16GB: Kodi18 with Titan MOD, Emby.
Main PC: Ryzen 7 2700, 16GB RAM, RX 570, 2 x 24"

Well after a lot of procrastination I have WMC running perfectly on WIN 10. Wake issue was due to NETWORK SERVICE needing to be added to administrator group. Search suddenly stated working with no issues and latest EPG collector and fix pac installed! It works amazingly well but have a system image of my old 7 system just in case! There are 3 patched versions of WMC floating around the net. I finally used the files from the My Digital Life forums, where users have patched WMC from 8.1. It seems the most bug free. So far so good!

You mentioned in an earlier post that the version of WMC you were using in Windows 10 was quite buggy.  What sort of bugs were you encountering and have you now solved them (given you say above it is now working perfectly on Win 10)?

Hi Satch. The first version I tried was called WMC version 10 which I found on Google. I could not get EPG collector to work with it at all, could not timeshift etc. the search feature dos not work and it would intermittantly crash for no reason. I then found version 7 from My Digital Life and other than adding Network Service to admin it works flawlessly

kiwibro, are you using any xbox extenders with your win 10 setup? I have a couple so i'm interested to know if they still work before i take the plunge.

Hi, no not using any Xbox extenders, it all just installed ok for what I use it for, live tv mainly. The only extender I use is Cetons My Media Center for an IPhone app.

Note that if you install Media Center on win 10 and upgrade to threshold 2 you will need to reinstall Media Center.
