So I'm looking to set up a home theatre with a projector. It'll do double-duty with my old-but-still-good 46" Bravia LCD. (The Bravia for casual watching, the projector for movie nights)

Done a bit of research, set a budget, and decided the BenQ DLP projectors look the best by a long shot, with the Panasonic LCDs in 2nd place.

Problem is that I can't seem to find a straight answer as to where to get BenQ projectors in NZ... none of the main retailers seem to carry them, there's a few fly-by-night "parallel-import" (translation: "You want WARRANTY too??!") places online, but for a 4-figure technology investment, I want the backup of an established local distributor.

The BenQ W1300 is the model that's pressing all my buttons at the moment.

Anyone know anything I don't from extensive time-wasting in Google?

I've seen BenQ projectors in Harvey Norman from time to time.

Hi I grabbed a BenQ projector not so long ago from AV World, here in NZ.

Great service and excellent customer care.

Drop them an email and see if they can source one for you, they did for me. Great price too.

BenQ changed importer recently, I believe it used to be done by Theophany? I'm not sure who does it now... but it doesn't have much of a representation.
I'd suggest Epson as an alternative, Panasonic is leaving the home projection market all together.

Dunnersfella: Panasonic is leaving the home projection market all together.

Can you substantiate that? Anything you can cite, for example? I tend to be sceptical and treat everything I see on the internet as rumours until my rigorous standards of proof are met.... nothing personal!

Ditto above, although given that the AE8000 is now 2 years old (and I haven't found rumours of a replacement), it may infact be true.

Would be a big pity if true, they were always my favourite projector to review (was fortunate enough to have the AE300, 500, 700 & AX-100 on Audioenz). I'm on my 2nd one at home now (had AE-700 and now have AX-200). Am hoping to upgrade to 1080p when tax refund comes in, the AE-8000 would seem a natural choice (or if it has a laser replacement in the pipeline), otherwise goodness knows.

Watch for the rainbows from the DLPs.  I bought a data projector, cost me a lot to flog it off and buy my AX100, which is still in the box after moving house :(

hi everyone
Bart from Rapallo here.
Unfortunately, the PTAE 8000 is the last Panasonic "home theatre" projector
4 years warranty on the units sold until December/January
7 years of guaranteed spare parts
a bargain given these are excellent projectors
cheers
Bart
