Hi there,

A bit earlier this year, my 46 inch LG tv lost its HDMI Ports. We thought the sky box had died as we couldn't get any signal from it on HDMI. Eventually I figured out it was HDMI as RCA and component cables worked. So now we live in this poopy world of RCA for audio and video.

So assuming it's the mainboard that's faulty, has anyone had this repaired and what was the cost? I've just been assuming the cost wouldn't make it worth the repair and to just limp on with the other input. But the inablility to use things like chromecast and R-Pi is starting to get to me. That and the fact that I can't watch Shorty in HD (troll).

thanks for any Input.

FIL has a Samsung LCD that has a dead board on it (think its the power unit) , was quoted $500 for repair - yet similar parts are online for $50NZD and would take 5 mins to swap out.

So you'd prob be best to get a quote, and if too much, look for parts online and attempt yourself....

How old is your TV?
Presumably out of warranty.
If it's 5 or more years old, parts may be hard/expensive to find, and a new TV may be a better option.

First make sure the cables are good.

The HDMI ports and cables are very susceptible to spikes.  If one blows it's quite possible for all the other connected HDMI devices and cables to be damaged.  So any testing you do make sure you are using good components.

thanks for the replies...

regarding testing, I have tested all components (cables and sky/xbox/dvd player) out on a second LCD tv with HDMI inputs.

Would a surge protected powerboard protect connected devices from spikes?

The TV is 5yo at Xmas this year so it's getting old. If it's too expensive, we will just live with crappy old RCA for a bit longer until it gets too much to bear.

for sale 1 x 47 inch LG TV with faulty HDMI ports :P

Surge protection is a black art!

My experience from earlier in the year is here: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=34&topicid=179434

Does the TV still recognize there are HDMI ports available?  Just nothing coming through the channels?

Yeah the AV source page reacts to HDMI devices being plugged in, just nothing comes up on screen.
