Hi all,

Just purchased the below 49inch LG TV from Noel Leeming:

https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/shop/home-entertainment/televisions/48-59-televisions/lg-49lf5100-49-full-high-definition-led/prod173416.html

I asked the sales person if it did audio out as i wanted to connect our sound bar to it.

When i got home, i couldn't plug our sound bar in and could only see one output "H/P out".

What does H/P out mean and is this for audio?

See photo below if that helps - the one HDMI port and USB port are not shown.

Thanks heaps,

Ummm.. Headphone out? Perhaps why it has a little pic of headphones next to it? Should just be a 3.5mm stereo jack.

Oh i thought that was a "C" - good point.

Righto, so this TV doesn't do audio out to a sound bar then? I will probably try to take it back - we got it to specifically use with sound bar

You can connect tv to a sound bar via that same cable.

It is a 3.5mm headphone/audio out connector.

If you have a 3.5mm plug on your soundbar you can plug it into the HP socket.

Your photo cut off the top of the panel, but I'm pretty sure that the top of the panel will read 'A/V OUT' or 'audio/video out'. If you have the two red and white RCA plugs on the end of the sound bar cable instead of a 3.5mm plug, you should be able to plug them into the top right two RCA sockets to use your sound bar.

What soundbar do you have? Not all soundbars have RCA inputs... most do, but not all.

The LG manual on the US web site shows an optical out instead of the headphone socket and no RCA 'audio/video out' top panel. I would have thought most sound bars have RCA plugs at least... the other options are 3.5mm plug, optical/Toslink, wireless.

I have to say I'm quite surprised the salesperson didn't give a quick demo on how to connect the soundbar. It's a fairly common ask now days for TVs

The New Zealand Manual shows no audio out other than the 3.5mm jack. Pretty average, but then again it is a cheap TV.

As far as I can tell (from the manual) you have 2 options:

HDMI -> Soundbar (if you have a recent soundbar with HDMI)  It uses a return channel to go back from the TV -> Soundbar. You may have to turn on smartlink or alike on the TV.
or HP (headphones) via 3.5mm -> soundbar.

What inputs do you have for the soundbar?

Noel Leeming took the TV back no issues.

I ended up buying a 50 inch Veon form the warehouse for $496 ($133 cheaper and 1 inch bigger). The veon has many more ports and sound out to sound bar is working via HDMI just fine.

The LG tv only had 1 hdmi which i was using for chromecast.

The guy at NL did say the RCA IN plugs could be used for RCA out to soundbar also if my sound bar had RCA. I thought that sounded a little odd???

EIther way, the picture quality of the Veon is very good - no issues with it at all - perfect for a bedroom TV. And it comes standard with a 3 year warranty.

He was correct, the TV + soundbar could use the analogue outputs.

How do you rate the Veon? I bought one for my Mum's birthday. Would you rate the built in audio as ok, assuming she doesn't watch movies often?
