Has anyone exerience importing speakers. They will fall well below $400 value, so do I need to worry about Tax?

Do any of the big sites ship straight to NZ? Or do I have to use the PO US address thing

Sorry for sounding ignorant, never done this before.

Not sure it would be worth the freight on speakers that cheap?

Some places will ship direct, some will not. Same as anything else. I have had some replacement drivers that I got off amazon thru shipito once, no different to anything else, but they were not that magnetic on the outside of the parcel that anything would stick. Magnets are on the list of restricted things so that was a concern I had.

On Amazon if you're logged in it will usually say below the price on the product page something along the lines of "This item ships to [insert you location here]" or "This item does not ship to [insert your location here]"

I think you have to check the mains power supply for speakers

Might be 110V/60Hz only etc..

aggh that a good point and if the are actives they will have a different plug and need a transformer. scrap that idea.

Might be fine if its from a company that has moved on from 100 year old power supply technology. My cheap logitechs are 100-240v, as are some fancy looking but not very good sounding "studio monitors" that a friend has.

Old transformer technology makes it easy to build active speakers with really high PMPO power outputs cheaply. With the resultant low RMS output of course. All you do is use a deliberately undersized transformer. So if you try to get alot of volume out of it for more than a few milliseconds, the power supply output voltage sags badly. Causing the amplifier to clip. Which also means you can get away with hardly any heat sinking on the amplifier as well.
