I have UHF and satellite STBs, not tuner cards. I don't want to install media centre software on my streaming pc. Is there any straightforward way to just collect epg data with a standalone program and drop it into a text file?

I think there is someone around here on Geekzone who collects the data using EPG Collector and then posts the xml file online.
Do some searching.
Whatever you find would have to be on the quiet. In the old days EPG data was hosted online....for whatever reason, Sky and TVNZ sent out cease and desist letters as their EPG data was copyright (WTF). Nobody could understand why, it was a stupid and petty decision.
