Hi there

Just wondering if there is an (semi)official ETA on the availability (in Wellington) of DVB-T/DTT signals. I'm in London at the moment, and thinking of getting an Elgato EyeTV for my mac (which is DVB-T/DTT), which will work on Freeview here.... but there isn't much point if I can't use it when I get back.

Sadly they dont appear to do a DVB-T/DVB-S/DVB-C combo one :(

Cheers

Nic

There has been no official launch date yet publically set for the DVB-T service.

Test channels have been up for some time and apparently the network gets "handed over" from Kordia (who are building it) to Freeview around mid March and people are picking a launch date some time in April.

Eyetv (software) cannot handle our broadcasts. All viewing needs to be done in windows or linux at the moment.

I dropped into the little PC shop in Tawa, Wellington  the other day and they have a DVBT STB running there. The broadcast was in High Definition at the time, looked great!

The little shop in Tawa markets the Kaon brand which is imported by Asoft.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Did you happen to spot any prices? Nothing on their website :(

And those in the know - how probable would it be to see dual tuner-card receivers pop-up on the scence in order to record one channel while watching another without interruption?

Dual tuner receivers are available for the DVB-S service so I would guess the DVB-T receivers will get the same treatment it would be best to hunt round though there are a few other good brands out there that dont carry the freeview label IMO Topfield is a really good brand.

Thanks everyone - looks like it's NOT a go on my Macbook then :(

Oh, well. We may end up staying here longer anyway - and I've not had TV for, um, 2 years, so I dont miss it. It's mostly for the Mrs to watch cooking shows.

Righto - cheers everyone!

Are there any Tests in Chch?

I have an Acer laptop with a built in DVB-T tuner, what software should I install to get in on the action?

I can hook it up to the arial on the roof or use the one that came with it.

Cheers.

Yes there are tests in Christchurch. Check out dvbviewer and gbpvr. Alot of the threads will explain how to get it going.

BTW, anyone know if/when EyeTv is going to support Freeview in NZ?

It doesn't even support BBC HD yet. Long time. It still thinks we are going to be using 7Mhz Pal BG DVB-T.
