Hi All,

I'm new here, this is my first post.
I bought a Samsung PS42Q91HX 42" plasma in the weekend, I have all it all hooked up and working - Have component input for sky and using HDMI from my samsung dvd recover. Sound is being delt with by my onkyo amp and then out through wharfedale speakers.

My question is.... Are there any resources out there that show/describe how to get the best picture from the TV using all or some of the built in functions? I'm sure some of the functions are there purely to excite sales people to over hype the unit for what it really is..

Any help would be great

Scott

I purchased a unit on the weekend too...good fun! ;)  I understand the general consensus is to disable things like dynamic noise reduction etc.  If you're feeding your unit from the HDMI some of these settings won't be available of course.  During my playing this evening, I popped the news on and adjusted the colour and brightness to get the most natural colours (the factory settings of most TVs make everyone quite pink).  We also have a darkish room so I turned down the backlight a couple of notches too.

Lots to learn here as I'm feeding ours with a Media Portal box and still trying to get to grips with things link de-interlacing.

Have fun...the hours of enjoyment we're going to get from these things...yeehar! ;)

One further thing.  If you find that any settings you make are being reset after a few minutes, your unit is in "shop mode" that deliberately resets everything to an awful over saturated picture to suit the shop floor.  To reset, hold the vol- and menu buttons in on the side of the unit for 5 seconds.  We watched a movie tonight and were driven mad by the settings reverting from the nice smooth setup we had to keep making.  We thought we were going to have to return the TV after numerous resets (until I googled it).

Thanks for that, i dont think mine is resetting... havent watched anything for a long period of time yet..

Having a problem with either the amp or dvd player though. I cannot get any DTS sound to play, its enabled on the DVD player and the amp supports it, I've tried everything with no joy.... Pull the power on everything last night and will start from scratch tonight after work... grr...
