Hello,

About to move into a brand new house and having an issue with the HDMI Matrix. In the data cupboard, there is the TV distributor, one of the Sky Boxes (and a Modulator), the Ethernet switch, and a 4-in 4-out HDMI matrix. There is also an IR extender. The issue is with getting picture on one of the TVs.

The MySky is outputting into the HDMI matrix, and the 3 TVs in other rooms are able to display Sky (and any other matrix input) fine, the 55" Bravia in the lounge refuses to show any picture. Between 2 Sky installers and the electrician, they could not figure out what was going on, and suggested it may be a dodgy HDMI chip inside the TV. However, if I connected an Apple TV directly to the TV, it displayed fine. And, if I connected another TV to the same cable, the picture would appear fine. Currently, the only way to watch Sky on that TV is to view it over Analogue (via the Modulator on the MySky)

There is some sort of communication going on, however. If I change the resolution of the MySky (via other TVs), the Bravia detects this change and displays the correct resolution in the corner of the screen. However, if I turn the Bravia off, change the resolution of the MySky to 1080i, then turn the Bravia on, the MySky will immediately change to 576p (causing the other TVs to flicker in the process).

I've also ruled out the MySky as the culprit - if I plug the Apple TV into the matrix, that also does not work on the Bravia, but still works on other TVs.

So now I'm stuck - I know that the Matrix is outputting the correct signal, but I also know that the HDMI ports on the TV aren't necessarily stuffed. Could the Bravia just be more "fussy" about what it talks to?

Any ideas?

Whats the cable like? Could just be a less sensitive input on that TV and a long cable.

I would first of all get a cheap inline HDMI repeater and try it on either end of the cable and see how it goes. I have tried several 10-15m cables to get video around the place and it really is hit and miss if they work, even at low res like the 1080i that mysky uses.

I would suggest running something direct to the Bravia. This will eliminate the matrix switch from the situation. If it still doesn't work then it is most probably the cable or the television itself. Try a different short cable by locating one of the HD devices directly next to the Bravia.
