in the old days i used to convert my avi/mpg movies to dvd format and would then burn as I wanted to play them in my dvd player (connected to amp) so I could get the AC3/DTS soundtrack.

recently have purchased an external soundblaster (have a laptop connected to plasma) so can play the movies on laptop and the amp does the sound proccessing - works great!

although ... when i burnt the movies to dvd the aspect ratio was taken into account - therefore if it was an "anamorphic" movie there would be no black  bars .. but now when playing via laptop it doesnt get the aspect ratio and there are always bars.

guess i am waffling ... just wondering is there a media player or plugin available that will play the proper aspect ratio on my plasma?
