hi

I have read that the new IQ2 will only launch with 2 tuners and then later in the year a firmware update will allow all 4 tuners to be used. Do you think mysky HDi will launch half baked or will Sky launch with full firmware? Here is the link http://hd.foxtel.com.au/blog/

I have not seen any comment that only 2tuners will be used in the first instance, but regardless, the box has 4tuners in it, the fact that in early days it may only use 2 of them either as a result of firmware limitations(or awaiting testing) or because backend systems are not ready to deal with boxs with 4tuners is pretty much irrelevent in my view.

To launch a service is an acheivement in its self, so what if all the features are not their on day one, is that really going to upset folk who just want to see the rugby in HD.

Hi,

This is the line from the link. 'In the early days and months, the box will be limited to two tuners with the same functionality as the current iQ unit. Later in the year after a big effort in software development, the box will reach its full potential of four tuners'. If I have to pay to recieve this new box then I would feel a little upset to discover that the service is being launched with a box unable to perform to it's advertised capability.

I think you are taking things far too seriously, you dont know what will be charged, or what features will be marketed in the first instance.

Marketing Vs Engineering issues are nothing new, been there more times in my life than I like to think. We have a race here to get HD on Sky/Foxtel, but obviously lots of engineering to get some features (not currently marketed or offered) to work. Name one other PayTV operator currently offering such high a level of PVR.

I think you are presenting a beatup that has little real substance, you dont know what will be marketed, at what price and with what future features promised or implied.

This obviously effects both SkyNZ and Foxtel, I doubt both organisations like the fact that potential marketing features cannot be offered on day one, if you dont like it, dont buy it.
