Hi All,

Last week i bought one of these as the seem to be going cheap.  If it was crap then I haven't lost much and it also stops the finance committee complaining about all  the remotes she has to use..

Well I must say that I was impressed with this thing.  Every thing seems to work except for oneitem..

When I set to play DVD  every thing goes well except that the TV will not switch to the HDMI port .  I have tried manually doing this from the 525 but no success. Also tried the seconf HDMI port but same problem.

Anyone else go this combination and got it to work??  I suspect it would not matter if I had bought the top end model as the database and control codes will be the same..

It will be a pain if I can't sort this as the other reason wa for watching Freevieew DTT when the STB  come down in price below $300..

TIA.

When you run the setup for the activity what input are you selecting for the TV? They should be labelled by name. Does it work if you manually switch to the correct input?

A couple of things.

1. Does the TV have dedicated buttons for each input (so HDMI1 HDMI2, Video etc.) or do you have to cycle through by pressing some button?

2. Or does it happen that pressing Input you get an on screen menu?

If there is a decidated button for each input that's best - if those buttons are not in the Harmony database then just have the Harmony learn the control from your Sony remote. Then in the activity Watch DVD tell the Harmony to switch to that input.

If there is no button, then you have to let the Harmony cycle through each input till it gets to the right one. That requires it knows where it was before. If it doesn't work you can also try the Help button on the control to synchronise the Harmony with the TV

Thanx for the reply.

The inputs on the main Sony remote is a cycle thru method. I know that some TVs and the Panasonics come to mind have dedicated remote buttons. I tried to get a Sony remote that would do this but they don't have any.  Their reasoning is " Gee, we would need lots of input buttons"

I tried setting up a spare button on the harmony to switch to the HDMI input but no joy and the same via the harmony help screen method so i suspect that harmony is sending the wrong code or no code.
I saw some posts on the harmony forum with simalar problem with other  TVs

The Harmony  gives the option for the HDMI input but even switching it manually from the harmony does not work..

I have a Sony rear pro (one of the newer models but not newest) and although the remote does not have dedicated buttons the Harmony database does and they work just fine.

If you cycle though using the original remote can you get output from the HDMI input then?

Also check that your timing is long enough for the TV to start. I had problems with this at first as the start-up time for the TV was too short and the command to change input was being sent before the TV was accepting IR commands.

Yep.  No problem with the Sony remote or the Sony HT remote,  They both go to HDMI ok..

Thanx for the timing hint. But i would have thought that as I had put a dedicated HDMI1 button on the remote and i pressed that after everything powers
on that it would have had long enough for the TV  to be ready to switch inputs..

This is a known problem with older Bravia's.  I have the 32inch S series and I can't change directly to the HDMI ports either.  Apparently the new Bravia's have resolved this problem.

The work around so it works with your logitech remote (this is what I do anyway) is to set all the channels you don't use to "SKIP".
Then program your remote to change to the first channel PRIOR to the HDMI channel that ISN'T set to SKIP.
Then tell your remote to wait a second or two and then send the command "INPUT NEXT" to get to the HDMI channel.

eg. My setup is like this:

Video 1    SKIP
Video 2    SKIP
Video 3    SKIP
HD/DVD1
HD/DVD2  SKIP
HDMI
PC

When I want to switch to HDMI the logitech remote sets the TV to HD/DVD1 and then sends the "INPUT NEXT" command.
It's a little cumbersome but works.

Hope that helps.

Thanx Bigmal.

I'll have a look at this thing and see if i can do it your way.  Just wish that i could find a PDF on the CD that came with it or one on the Logitech site..

Yeah, I've got a 2 year old Bravia and could not find the direct code for HDMI input.  I even spent some time talking to Logitech (which were very helpful and speedy I might add) but they did not have any codes which worked on my panel.

BigMal's suggestion sounds like the best option.  I might try this at some stage as I currently have to cycle through the inputs to reach HDMI...

Just a thought, I'm not familiar with the exact remote handset described, but if it is capable of recording a series of keystrokes as a macro, you could try something like this:
menu > down > enter > down > down > down > down > enter
On screen, it would go like this: menu ("wega gate" on early Bravia) gets you the main menu at left side, down 1 step to input select tab of menu, "enter" then gets you input select tab, then however many presses of "down" arrow to highlight reqd input, then "enter" again, and you are there. Benefit of this, is that key sequence is the same, whatever the TV doing at the time (as far as I recall, without having one handy just now!) hope this might be useful.

There's a learn new command on the web site, where you give the command the name you want, and point original remote at bottom of harmony remote. I used that to program in some buttons that didn't set up automatically.

You might be able to program in the HDMI button that way. I haven't looked at activities closely though, so not sure how it works there - but if HDMI command programmed in, or input change then can cycle through input modes by pressing buttons.

I used the learn to program in Planner button, Sky button etc on the mysky unit as they didn't set up automatically. Also it got the commands wrong for the arrow keys on my TV so I had it learn thoses, and now work fine.

The problem (for me anyway) is that the Bravia doesn't have the ability to switch directly to HDMI, not from it's own remote nor from a learned command.

The work around I use is effective, it just means you have to point the remote at the TV for an extra few seconds while it issues the commands.

The problem lies with the TV not the remote.  I wish there was someway to upgrade the Bravia firmware :-)

Many thanx BigMal.

I finally got time to look at this problem again and sorted it in a similar fashion to you discribe.  Funny thing was I had been in this area before  but I found that I had to issue 2  Gotonext  commands to go from the HD/DVD2 to the first HDMI  and 3 commands to go second HDMI.

A big thanx to everyone for thre suggestions and help..Smile
