So I recently upgraded my tv. The old one had a VGA socket where i could plug my old faithful Lenovo media box. The new TV does not have a VGA socket.

I bought a Unitek Y-6333 HDMI to VGA adapter assuming that it would work both ways. I believe that I was incorrect and a different adapter is needed to go from VGA to HDMI.

1. Is that correct?

2. Suggestions of a adapter?

Yeah you can't go that way. You need a digital source such as DVI.

VGA is analogue, so now theres no real way around it without getting some form of digital out from the device first

So essentially you need 2 things to active convert between.

But be very very wary... Theres a limitation to VGA upscale. And it usually revolves around this

Supports a maximum display resolution of 1280x1024

in all honesty upgrade your Lenovo media box to something newer.

you can get things for around the $100 mark that stream media and allow you access to the net and streaming services

Thank you as always for taking the time to answer what must seem like simpleton questions......

I have discovered that the Lenovo box I have has a display port which the lenovo page assures me with a adapter form display port to HDMI will work. We will see just bought one on TM

I do a have a nexus play unit and I can always plug my laptop straight in so its no real biggy just convenient

I will update on the result

VGA to HDMI is quite a jump in any case. You should have better luck with the displayport.

Should look a hell of a lot nicer now too without the degredation of analog levels and lack of clock to mess up the image.

I bought a cheap aliexpress VGA to HDMI converter a while back for when I had to look at relatives old junk computers (Only for removing old data, I refuse to actually fix anything that old) and it was _terrible_ - no chance of getting any lock on the VGA signal reliably and it would blank out all the time as it decided to change its clock to try to better match the incoming VGA one. It never got a proper lock and lacking the adjustments that VGA in on monitors have there was no way to fix it.
