My new Panasonic 50dx740u has 2 tuners, so I can record one channel and watch another.  The TV software is rubbish though.

So I was surprised to turn on the PS3 and going through the Video options, there was one for the Panasonic > Tuners > Ch1, CH2 (etc). I went in and could access all the channels over the network via the Playstation - plugged into a computer monitor.  So my TV was driving one channel, then the play station was driving another.  There is an android app (called Panasonic media centre - also rubbish) that does this too, but I assumed it would be proprietary.  Is appears not!

My question is what do I need to do to be able to use this second tuner on my PC?  I presume the PC software is better at recording / series link etc. than the TV would be...

Cheers!

Depends if there's software that can access the tuners. They may advertise on upnp. Or they may use some proprietary network protocol.

First idea would be to see if there's software for your pc from Panasonic. If nothing else you might be able to dump the transport stream to your pic.
