I found a thread about a smiliar issue but the guy had messed with his video drivers and so on so it did not really help. Basically I have a new FZ series VAIO with the HDMI output. It is connected through my Denon AVR-987 receiver. Video is beautiful. Audio doesn't happen. The sounds settings on the computer say that the Digital Output Device is "not connected" while the video does work?!? I tried switching cables to elminate the cable being the issue. I tried connecting directly to the TV (samsung 42in plasma) with no audio success.

Then I contacted sony. 3.5 hours of chatting and 2.5 hours on the phone later, still no Audio. One of the techs let it slip that there is known bug with the Sigmatel Audio codec, or chips, or whatever they are but wouldn't elaborate when I pressed him on it.

Can anyone help????   please??

My Dell with HDMI and SigmaTel chip does audio and video perfectly over HDMI so it may just be a particular incompatibility with the Sony setup.
