Anyone else find it frustrating that even though Sky allow the rugby to be broadcast on Prime (albeit delayed) in widescreen they are still insisting on broadcasting in 4:3 on Sky Sport 1?

I appreciate that Prime is owned by SKY but why not let their customers that actually pay for the service view rugby in w/screen too without having to fork out extra for the Rugby channel.

I suspect that the broadcasting in w/screen on Sky sport 1 would lead to a rapid demise of the rugby channel and this is part of the reasoning.

I think the argument that most customers have a 4:3 TV is getting a bit old now. If you can afford to shell out $70 a month for SKY you can afford a widescreen TV.

Very good point, i wish they did too. But being somewhat of a monopoly in the Pay TV area they aren't going to do much in a hurry.

I'm guessing thats the main reason, as soon as spy sport goes widescreen they pretty much may as well scrap the rugby channel.

With Spy sport 1 and 2 going to HD at July 1st one would think the SD versions would change to widescreen. I predict that the Rugby channel will be kept and present subsriptions to it shall remain unless people upgrade to HD options.

yeah, it sucks, but i guess like has been said, nothing will change until Sky HD is launched.

Are the Warriors games shown in 16:9 or 4:3??

4:3 here in NZ.

16:9 over the ditch.

Once again SKY seems to be behind the times, surely if w/screen is being broadcast in Aussie SKY could get the feed here.

They do get the feed here - they then chop the sides off.

Correct.  I was meaning what do Prime do?  I'm never up at midnight to bother checking.

I just hate having to keep finding another remote and making the tv 4:3 again. At least black border it.

I can confirm that NRL on Prime is in fact widescreen. I'm ringing up to complain tomorrow.

I agree, would be nice if when the STB is in 16:9 mode, bang some black bars on the side for 4:3 channels, thus pillarboxing it, i too get p__d off having to keep changing AR settings on another remote

you're right, the NRL is in 16:9 on Prime
