For that budget you should be able to build a balanced system, but keep in mind that too a degree your room actually defines a lot about how a home theater will turn out. Dedicated rooms, such as I have, allow for dedicated layouts and less compromises. There are always some. But mixed rooms, that are used as day to living have considerable challenges, where mostly you have to compromise to day to day living.

Also when you say a home theater, well there is a fairly large scale of HTIAB to full on 7.2.4 surround sound and visual system. If you are starting from scratch, consider all the extras, wiring, power needs, furniture etc etc. These chew up the budget fairly quickly.

I love projection systems, setup right they can deliver a great experience. But do some internet research on available models here. If in a mixed environment and too bright and no light control, projection will struggle.

Notice I haven't mentioned a brand yet, that is difficult until you can narrow down whether you want to focus more on sound system or more on projector or display. Either side can chew up your budget with one item.
However start store and internet browsing and target on medium range equipment, personally I'd aim at about half on sound and half on display. After doing store and internet browsing you might end up 60~40 cost balance. Don't forget all the extras though, can be 10~20% of the cost.

Do visit a local dedicated AV store and get advice and guidance.

ET: "Maybe; you have some freewill, but you chose your path by arrangement"

Me "That sounds like a program with no freewill?"

ET: "We will catch up when you end this cycle"

Me: "Sounds like a 'KPI'!"

ET: "Did you read the terms and conditions?"
