I have ben putting off getting a DVD recorder for the past year in the hope that they may come out with a built in DTT tuner.  No such luck and it appears unlikely for the next 12 months plus.  Guess NZ will be the country of stacked STBs

I saw the above model in the latest JB HiFi flyer for $399 The part below interested me.

Record Time : MPEG2: XP-43Hrs

Record Time : MPEG2: SP-84Hrs

Record Time : MPEG2: LP-164Hrs

Record Time : MPEG2: EP-233Hrs

Record Time : MPEG2: MLP(Maximize Long Play)-477Hrs

Record Time : MPEG4: XP-165Hrs

Record Time : MPEG4: SP-215Hrs

Record Time : MPEG4: LP-275Hrs

Record Time : MPEG4: EP-429Hrs

Mpeg4 would be the way to go .

Are there any other DVD recorders doing Mpeg 4??

I would prefer a Panasonic as  they seem more reliable and more user freindly but are about $200 more expensive.

Went and had a look at this thing today.  Flaged it away as it only has composite inputs no Svideo  which I want so I can feed from my Skydecoder.  Assuming that  my Pace 3230 will output in Svideo on both outputs.

Saw the Pany  DMR-EH57 there for $449 which looked by the reviews a far better recoder.  Cheapest price I have found for these..

I bought the Panasonic DMR-EH57GN-K for $430..  Great DVD recorder but a crap DVD player. You have to go and change the TV standard from PAL to NTSC  when you put in a NTSC  disk and back again afterwwood.  Even though most TVs sold here over the past 15 years have been true miltistandard it amazes me that this player  can't auto select and put out the correct TV standard for the movie.  Hell both my Pioneer players do this..

Thanx for that.  Weird .  Must be a Japanese thing..  The  finance committee will never sort this thing out, even tying it into my Harmony remote..Cool
