Hi, due to Windows always breaking the htpc, I thought I will try mythbuntu for my htpc. Been reading different forums and confusing what TV cards etc work. I watch live tv and the odd record a program. Just wondering if anyone here runs mythbuntu and if so what DVB-T tuner they use. I have 3 haupauge hvr- 4400 which I gather wont work whatever. Doesnt matter if its PCIe or USB, just something known to work. Thank You

I've set up myth using a network tuner from Silicon Dust called HD Home Run. Nicegear in NZ stock them. My setup isn't complete yet but myth sees the tuner and picks up all the channel info so I'm sure it will work.

Is recording really worth it these days with the wealth of on demand content... Someone here made a Kodi add-on for TVNZ

I have experimented with various htpc setups, including a MythTV setup with a couple of cheap USB DVB-T sticks (Realtek RTL2832U chipset) from AliExpress. It took a while to get setup fully - initial setup is straightforward, with plenty of guides available online, but some of the finer details took quite a bit of troubleshooting. Basic use for recording and timeshifting worked pretty well. However, the thing that killed it for me was the linux file management environment, particularly trying to access files from a windows pc through SMB shares - just too un-intuitive and cumbersome for a linux noob like me. I was trying to also use the machine as a torrent client and media storage (for many linux iso files) and trying to curate these just became too vexed.

yes it is as not everything is available on demand

I have one of the first dual tuner models here that has a single input. I will dig it out and give it a try. Didnt work well before when the council had planted a wall of trees between us and the transmitter, but in May they chopped them all down so the TV has good signal strength again so the HD Homerun may work

We have a very strong signal here so no problems with that. I found the web client useful for testing the tuner in a nice simple setup to prove the tuner was working.

There is a MythTV mailing list in NZ with lots of helpful people.
I find MythTV to be way better and more versatile than anyhing else I have seen or tried.
My server is also a file server and media server which works fine with Windows PCs (I can even stream movies, live TV and recordings to anyone with a decent connection)

Oh, regarding the original questions about tuners, HDHomerun works a treat.
